TEACHING
I began my teaching career as a home school educator. I continued my passion for teaching and mentorship in the Montessori system in the PK-2 classroom. I decided to return to school and received an MS in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. I moved to Logan, Utah where I received my Ph.D. in Instructional Technology at Utah State University. My research interests have consistently revolved around online, hybrid, Live Stream, and open education. I have worked and researched to better the open education system and continue to do so today.

I am a Simple and Effective Designer. I used to design for look and feel and in a sense, to show off my programming skills. Today, I am more of a simple design of instruction. I like to meet students, faculty, and staff where they are. I include multiple modes of representation when I design. Whether you believe in different learning preferences or not, there are still observable facts that come from the classroom. Different people learn in different ways. How can I meet a variety of students to engage in their learning, get a high enough return on their time and money spent learning, and most importantly in a pre-teacher program, see themselves as a teacher and successfully transfer their learned knowledge into their own classrooms?
I am an Engaging Facilitator. I am determined to be a well-practiced research-ready facilitator. I quickly work to demonstrate my prior knowledge and expertise before teaching, engaging, and creating a safe space for participants. I create a space of sharing by listening carefully, asking clarifying questions, and offering solutions from other group participants or from my knowledge base.

I am an Innovative Creator. I enjoy making new experiences for my students and fellow teachers. I go through each of my LMS experiences during and at the end of each semester to make sure that everything is current, assessments were effective, modes of representation were met, language is inclusive and the tools are still free to students and effective as when chosen. I challenge my students to be a similar type of teacher. The reviews from leadership in the local schools are strong and confident in my work.
I have previously taught courses based on my research in Distance Education, Technology Integration, Foundations of Education, Projects in Instructional Technology, Practicum in Distance Education, Web 2.0 Tools in Education, and learning theory. I am looking forward to adding Children's Literature to my list in Fall of 2023.
